Good evening, the 4th grade teachers are looking for some great field trip ideas! I am from Phenix City, AL. so my ideas maybe different from yours, however I would love to hear about places in your area!

  1. I live in Spanish Fort, Alabama, which is just east of Mobile Bay. We have several great attractions located in our area, but two of my favorites for elementary schoolers are Battleship Memorial Park and the Gulf Coast Exploreum. Battleship Memorial Park is a military history park and museum located on the western shore of Mobile Bay, in Mobile, AL. It has a collection of aircraft and ships, including the South Dakota class USS Alabama Battleship and the Gato-class submarine USS Drum. Also, the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center in downtown Mobile would be a fun, educational experience for your 4th graders. The Center has a variety of educational and entertaining activities, including an IMAX theater, various exhibits, and demonstrations. You might consider including both of these attractions for a one day trip to Mobile from Phoenix City.

    1. Although that I would love to bring my students to Mobile, it would have to be a 2 day field trip. Phenix City is about 4 hours away so most of our trip would be spent on the bus.

  2. Since 4th grade standards include Alabama history, what better field trip than a day at the state capitol. Students can tour the building and learn about the history of it. There is a great area for picnic on the lawn for lunch. In the same area is an old town block with historic homes and stores that are kept up similar to a museum. The Rosa Parks museum is also right down the road.

    1. Awesome idea. In fact, we are taking our students to Montgomery in May. Last October, we took them to a native american festival and they absolutely loved it. They learned how they made weapons and about their culture.
